The counselors have given all current 6th and 7th grade students their course selection sheets for next year's projected school. Students need to turn in their parent signed course selection sheets, with their requests for next year indicated, to the front office by Monday, February 29th. If your student has received a course selection sheet from another middle school and you feel it is an error, please contact the Hays CISD main offices for any questions you might have. Thank you!

Middle school kids face so many new challenges but learning how to study can be much easier when using specific strategies. Scroll through "The Perfect 10 Study Habits" below to learn how to make studying a breeze :) Adjusting to middle school is a huge challenge for 6th graders. Along with new responsibilities and academic stressors, students also face issues such as combatting shyness, making friends, contending with cliques, bullying, social media issues, and dealing with parents and teachers. Linda Elkin has authored a wonderful new book titled "Gaby and The Best Middle School Self-Defense Book Ever". The two main characters, Gaby and Lily, find themselves facing all of these issues and decide to write a paper on it for their English class! There's a copy in the counseling office if anyone would like to look at it.
During our back to school training, the counselors were shown this video by Kid President. If you don't know who he is, you should check out this inspiring young man! You can find the rest of his videos and learn more about Robby ("Kid President") at http://kidpresident.com/ Even in middle school, there are opportunities to apply for scholarships! This one is from the VFW and is open to 6th-8th graders. The essay this year is: Why I Appreciate America's Veterans
http://www.vfw.org/Community/Patriot-s-Pen/ Here's a link to an awesome short video about the boomerang effect of random acts of kindness. It's great to share with students! You can find more info on LifeVest Inside at http://www.lifevestinside.com/ Enjoy! |
